• New Year, New Morrisville

Posted by Heather Brahan on 1/19/2022

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back and Happy New Year!  I wish you all continued health and success in 2022.

To begin the New Year, the Morrisville Middle/Senior High School resolves to have a greater focus upon the positive elements that our students are doing throughout the community.  The points of pride that we can all rally around to elevate Morrisville.  Our students are doing wonderful things and we want to ensure they understand we support them in all of their endeavors!

To guarantee our ability to take on this resolution successfully, we will be focusing on positive rewards and reestablishing expectations.  We will meet with students tomorrow morning to discuss their ability to earn a monthly student selected activity, to encourage positive behaviors.  We will also discuss expectations surrounding classroom attendance and student conduct.  Students are expected to attend class on time each day and to exhibit behaviors that are consistent with cooperative learning.  These behaviors are essential to ensure that our students are highly prepared to obtain post-secondary success in either the workforce, or a continuing education setting. To support this goal, school administration will enact random hall sweeps beginning the week of January 10th, with consequences as outlined within our Student Code of Conduct.

To further our students’ ability to achieve success, we will be adding a restorative justice approach to our response to student discipline.  Restorative justice focuses upon assisting a student to understand how a behavior has impacted others, alternative ways to react in the future, and what can be done to repair any relationships that may have been affected.  Any student requested to serve either a detention or a suspension will be provided with a reflection form that is based upon this principle.  As always, if you have any questions surrounding our resolution, please reach out to our administrative team at 215-736-2681.  I can be reached via email at hbrahan@mv.org, or Mr. Mayger at bmayger@mv.org.

    Sincerely,

    Heather Brahan

    Acting Principal

  • Parent Virtual Information (1/7 - 1/14)

Posted by Heather Brahan on 1/6/2022

    Greetings,

This afternoon I met with all students throughout the building to discuss our shift to virtual instruction beginning tomorrow, January 7th.  Together we reviewed our Student Information for Building Closure document, which outlines expectations for all learners during virtual instruction.  Please review this document with your student again, to ensure they understand our school procedures.  To provide teachers with the opportunity to better prepare for this shift, students will participate asynchronously tomorrow.  All assignments will be posted to Schoology.

Beginning Monday, January 10th, students will participate in teacher led instruction via Zoom.  Students will follow an alternate bell schedule that will offer direct instruction between the hours of 7:45 AM and 12:20 PM.  Office hours will be conducted between the hours of 12:57 PM and 2:55 PM, to provide students with additional support on an as-needed basis.  Virtual instruction is anticipated to conclude on Friday, January 14th.  Students are anticipated to return to the building on Tuesday, January 18th.  We are hopeful that these actions will better support student learning for those who are currently home due to Covid-19.  This will also help to maintain the safety of all community members.

Please note that this closure will not affect athletics.  Students who are currently participating in sporting events will continue to be allowed to practice and play in games.  All teams will be required to maintain our Return to Participate Plan, that outlines our Covid-19 policies and procedures for student athletes.  If you have any questions surrounding our athletic policies, please email Mr. John Hubiak, our Athletic Director, at jhubiak@mv.org

As always, if you have any questions surrounding this information, please contact our Middle/Senior High School Administration.  I am available via email at hbrahan@mv.org.  Our Assistant Principal, Mr. Brian Mayger is available at bmayger@mv.org.  You may also call the school directly at 215-736-2681.

    Take care,

    Heather Brahan

  • 6th Grade Communication - Electronic Devices

Posted by Sean Haines on 12/9/2021

    Good evening 6th grade families,

This morning during your student’s advisory class, our electronic device policy was reviewed with all 6th grade students.  Each class engaged in a meaningful conversation surrounding staff and teacher expectations towards cell phone usage.  Students also reviewed teacher procedures for entry into each class period.  All students are expected to place their phones into a pocket chart upon entry into each classroom.  As a follow up, we reviewed consequences for students who do not choose to follow our electronic device policy.  A student friendly version of our policy is attached to this letter.  Kindly review our policy with your student, sign and return it with your student to school tomorrow morning.  Beginning Monday, December 13, we will increase our focus on our electronic device policy, to support teaching and learning.  A full length version of our policy may be found in our Middle/Senior High School Student Handbook.  Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions surrounding our policy. I am available to you via email at hbrahan@mv.org or by phone, 215-736-2681.

    Sincerely,

    Heather Brahan

  • Introduction of Acting Principal, Heather Brahan

Posted by Heather Brahan on 12/6/2021

    Dear Morrisville Community,

With great excitement I write this letter to you as the new Acting Principal of Morrisville Middle/Senior High School.  I am honored to be able to serve a community of strong academic scholars, innovative educators, and supportive family members.  I am exhilarated by this community, and I cannot wait to see where this opportunity will take us.

As an educator dedicated to the pursuit of lifetime learning, I began my career in 2008 as a special education teacher.  Over the years I have held several titles within the special education community, working most recently as a Director of Special Education.  My tenure with the Morrisville Community began in July as the Assistant Principal to our now Acting Superintendent, Mr. Haines.

In continuation of my mentorship with Mr. Haines, we will work together to ensure a smooth transition for all members.  Our academic vision remains centered upon the individual educational career of each of our students. By continuing our work with our committed staff members, each student will be afforded a quality education that aligns with their individual career goals.

As the year progresses, I look forward to meeting more members of our school community.  I encourage community involvement in every way possible, as communication between families and the school are vital to student achievement. Morrisville is a unique and special place that I am honored to be a part of.  Please note that my door is always open to you.  You can contact me via email at hbrahan@mv.org, or by phone at 215-736-2681.

    Sincerely,

    Heather Brahan

  • Week of September 27, 2021

Posted by Sean Haines on 9/27/2021

Good evening Morrisville M/S HS Community,

Another beautiful weekend is behind us, and I hope that everyone was able to relax and enjoy it! You can find a few updates for this week below:

    Back to School Night

We held our annual Back to School Night on Thursday, September 23, 2021, and it was very nice to see our families in the M/S HS building again. I hope the evening was an informative event; please continue to keep the lines of communication open with your student’s teachers.

    District Benchmark Testing

Our M/S HS students will be participating in the fall administration of our District Benchmark Exams this week during regularly scheduled classes. Benchmark assessments assist teachers and schools in determining student progress according to Pennsylvania State Standards in English, Mathematics, and Science. The School District of Borough of Morrisville administers Benchmark Exams in the fall to collect diagnostic baseline data, in the winter to monitor student progress and growth, and again in the spring to measure student performance compared to the end of year course and grade level expectations set by the PA State Standards.

    District Devices

As you are aware, all M/S HS students have been provided with a District Chromebook to support their learning daily. As we begin our fifth week of school, I would like to remind everyone to review our School Board Policy 815 – Acceptable Use of Internet, Computers, and Network Resources as well as the Morrisville School District Equipment Receipt Form that supports our policy.

Please stay connected to this blog, our District website, Facebook page, and as always, please get in touch with me at shaines@mv.org should you have any questions.

Thank you, and have an excellent week!

    Sean D. Haines

    M/S HS Principal

Parents/guardians are also reminded that there will be an opportunity for you to provide your updated contact information in the cafeteria during your scheduled “lunch period” this evening.  To best support our students, we kindly ask that you take a moment to provide this information so that we can update our Student Information Management System, PowerSchool, with the most accurate contact information.  Additionally, we kindly ask that you explore Schoology and PowerSchool during your “lunch period.”

It is our sincere hope that you have an enjoyable and informative evening.

    Have a great night!

Good afternoon Morrisville M/S HS Community,

I hope that everyone had an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend! We had a successful week in the M/S HS this past week. Students, staff, and families demonstrated the flexibility and effort needed to support all of our students during this unique Fall standardized testing experience. Everyone’s effort is sincerely appreciated! Below you will find a brief update as we enter the week.

    Fall Testing Update

We will be extending PSSA Make-up exams this week. However, there will be no changes made to the Middle/Senior High School Testing Calendar. The Guidance Department will be in touch with a small number of families to complete testing requirements.

    Back to School Night

Our annual Back to School Night is scheduled for Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 6:30 pm. We are excited to welcome our families back to the building this year!  More information on BTSN will be communicated early this week.

    TikTok Challenge

Recently, we have experienced a few incidents of vandalism in our M/S HS bathrooms due to a viral TikTok challenge, referred to as “Devious Lick.” Morrisville M/S HS, like many other schools, experiences student misbehavior and addresses the behavior accordingly. There are consequences in our District for this type of behavior, including those outlined in our Student Handbook, School Board Policy, and in extreme cases in accordance with our local police department. Most of our students do the right thing every day because it is the right thing to do, and we appreciate their positive choices. However, we understand that students make mistakes occasionally, and we are here to educate and support our students every step of the way. Please speak with your students about the potential consequences of participating in ill-advised social media challenges as we work together to encourage positive social media use and community connections.

Please stay connected to this blog, our District website, Facebook page, and as always, please get in touch with me at shaines@mv.org should you have any questions.

    Have a fantastic week!

    Thank you,

  • Fall Testing Information

Posted by Sean Haines on 9/9/2021 5:00:00 PM

Good afternoon Morrisville M/S HS Community,

I hope that everyone is safe and sound after the recent storms and had an opportunity to enjoy the holiday break. As you may recall, our District decided last Spring to administer the 2020-2021 Pennsylvania Standardized Assessments (PSSA and Keystone Exams) in the Fall of the 2021-2022 school year. As a result, adjustments to our schedule and instructional model were made to effectively administer the required standardized assessments. Below you will find important information regarding the administration of these standardized assessments to our Middle and Senior High School students beginning Monday, September 13, 2021.
